How to Customize the Lab Portal

VetView provides a Labs Portal that allows your lab clients to view the available catalog of tests they can order, view test results for their patients, view their outstanding invoices, and other information on a specially designated website.

As of VetView 2.0 VetView also provides Web Services calls that can be used to extend VetView to other custom web applications, not just the portal.  For example, you can create a phone app version of our portal, or create a special website for building bulk accessions in a clean room only using a touch screen.

See the UGA COVID testing case study page for an example of our web extension capabilities.

titleTechnical Documentation

The Labs Portal can be customized for your institution, but this pages require some programmatic knowledge of CSS and website design.  Please be prepared to work with your lab or hospital's website design team to take full advantage of the customization options in VetView.

See the linked PDF for an explanation of VetView's Portal customization options using Bootstrap.

Portal Customization Guide for Version 2.1 of VetView

For Version 2.1 of VetView, the portions of the Portal Customization has been moved under Lab Setup.

This allows you to turn the ability to turn on Portal features for each individual lab, as opposed to having a single universal setting for all labs.

Features that apply to the whole portal, including the Hospital Portal, remain under the Common Setup Data > Portal Setup page.

Portal Lab Options

Make sure that the lab you want to turn on has been selected at the very top of the Lab Setup screen, under Lab Search.

FieldDescription
Lab Portal EnabledTurns on the portal features for this lab.  When this flag is turned off, neither the lab itself, or any of the catalog items for the lab, are available on the Client Portal.
Catalog EnabledDisplays your lab's catalog for clients to view and search.  It is possible to have the portal enabled to allow for the viewing of results without allowing the catalog to be open.
Lab Section Selector EnabledIf you have sections within your lab, you can turn this feature on and allow the clients to choose the section to narrow down catalog items.
Filter Out Selectable SectionsHides the listed sections from the Lab catalog, if those items should not be visible on the portal
Accession Search ColumnsSets the client types for your columns.  By default this will blank.  VetView recommends setting your bill party as the first column, and a type such as business name for the second column.
Accession Search Filter EnabledFilters out any accessions with the selected keywords.
Patient Filter EnabledFilters out any patients with the selected keywords.
Accounting View OptionsYou can choose to show a complete account history, or instead only show Invoices.
Portal Registration InstructionsThese are the text instructions that will appear on the Portal Registration page for this specific lab.  This should include the steps that the client will need to take, such as where to locate their account number, and who to contact if they do not have an account number or cannot find it.

In the example above, the Portal Registration Instructions will appear on the portal page like this.  This is an RTF text file, so you can format the instructions as needed to be clear and succinct.

Lab Portal Email Settings

These are the settings for lab registration and all lab communications sent via email.

Image Added

FieldDescription
Lab Registration To Email AddressThis should be the email account for all incoming portal registration requests.  VetView recommends setting up a unique email account for this purpose, not necessarily a designated individual, to ensure continuity of the requests and also that no registrations are missed.  Contact your university's technology services department to request a unique address.
Lab Portal Email FromThis is the email address from which all email communications will appear to be from.  Like the To email address, this may be better as a departmental email address rather than a specific individual.
Portal User Welcome Email SubjectThe subject line for the first welcome email that will be sent to a client after they have requested access to your portal.
Portal user Welcome Email BodyThe text of the email that will be sent to new clients.  You can include any additional instructions here, such as who to contact for problems accessing the portal account, any next steps the client needs to take after the account is provisioned, and payment information.

External Payment Processor Form Properties

If you will accept payments from clients on your Portal for this lab, you can customize the required fields for the form.

Click on the Add button to start adding fields.  A small window will open containing the available fields, and the spaces for the required values.,

The type will display on the page.  The Form Property Name is how the entered data should appear on the back end, depending on the vendor you are using for your payment processing.  The Post URL name can be left blank, with the value of the website for your venter to accept the payment.

Contact your specific payment processing vendor for these details, if you do not already have this information.
