How do I know whether a prescription has Refills available?

Under the

Active Prescriptions tab, all prescriptions with available refills will appear

in the section called Available Refills.

There are two ways to initiate a refill - you can either right click to access the menu and choose Refill, or simply click on the Refill Rx icon next to the total number of available refills.

How do I see how many refills are available?

The refill number appears next to the refill icon.  Your pharmacy has control over how many refills can be included with a prescription based on the scheduled status of the drug.  

The available refills also appear on the info dot for the prescription.

How do I add a comment to my refill request?

You will be asked to add any desired refill comments, and also to select the patient status and any notes for the patient status (e.g. Going Home, with a time of 4:00 PM in the free text box.)

Upon clicking Submit, the request will be sent to the Pharmacy to be filled.  Refills are already approved and do not need to go through the clinician approval process again.

How do I copy a prescription that doesn't have refills?

For controlled substances, or prescriptions that have run out of refills or whose refills have expired, you can right click and choose Copy Rx to initiate a new identical prescription.

Clicking on Copy Rx will immediately open a prescription request form with the same information as the original prescription, but updated expiration dates.

This prescription will need to go through the standard clinician approval process again before being sent to the Pharmacy.

If there is no open episode for the refilled or copied prescription to be placed on, the word "Closed" will appear at the top of the prescription form.

The pharmacy will be prompted to open a bill-only episode at the point of fill.

How do I cancel Refills for prescriptions that aren't needed any more?

If a clinician wishes to no longer have a patient on a specific prescription, you can cancel the entire prescription directly from the patient record.

You can also cancel a single requested refill in a series, which will restore that refill to the refill counter.  (For example, if the client says they cannot afford the refill today and want to come back in a week.)

Once a Refill is approved or even issued, then those refills will need to be cancelled by the Pharmacy instead.
