For prescriptions that are PRN or have a set number of refills, you can refill the prescription directly from the patient's record.
For prescriptions that were issued as No Refill, you will need to issue a new prescription and have it go through the cliician approval process again.
Step-by-step guide
From the patient's record on the Prescription tab:
- Right click on the medication that needs to be refilled. Or click on the blue Rx symbol that appears next to the number of refills in the Refills column.
- A small window will open for you to verify the bill that the refill will be posted against (e.g. the current open order if there is one) and to enter any comments for the pharmacy on the refill.
- Select the Patient Status (in this case, it could not "not here" or "mail order" and enter in a any additional information, such as as a time the client will pick up the product, in the box next to it.
- Submit will send it straight to the pharmacy. Refills do not need to be re-approved by clinicians.
- Refills can be modified temporarily by the pharmacy when they go to edit the prescription. However, this will not modify the original prescription. Use this option if a product is out of stock.
- If you wish to modify the refill permanently with a different product, you must copy the Rx and create a new one with the adjusted script information. A copied prescription will need to be re-approved.
