This page has been updated to reflect changes in version 1.6.5

The Prescription Setup tab is where you can assign certain attributes to products at a higher level than the products.

You can define your drug classes, your permitted draft terms, your generic families, and the link between VetView and your Controlled Drug Machines.

 Drug Class Setup

Drug classes in VetView are customizeable, because the DEA's rules may be enforced differently for each state or province.  This also allows a school to implement any changes at the state or federal level without having to wait for a software update.

You can also use this setup to customize non controlled substances for products for which you wish to limit the maximum allowed refills or refill expiration date.

Once saved as Active, the new Drug Class can be applied to any products immediately without additional setup, and all the refill rules will be enforced on that product going forward, at both the Request and Fill levels.

 Draft Terms Setup

The Draft Terms are a legacy feature from UVIS that allows you to define a set of available terms for use in prescriptions.  Unlike the Drug Profiles, which include free form instructions, the Draft Terms tool allows you to have a restricted and uniform set of vocabulary across each prescription.

Available Draft Term types are Verb, Route, Unit, Frequency, and Duration.

New draft terms can be added or edited, and existing draft terms can be defined on this page.

The Value on this is used to calculate the Daily Quantity and should be assigned as 1 unless the Frequency indicates more than one a day.  A frequency of "twice a day" would have a value of 2 instead of 1.
