• Commonly known as ‘ASAQ’ in VetView, the MAPAQ program, or the Programme d'aide à la maîtrise de l'assurance-qualité (Program for the Mastery of Quality Assurance), is a Quebec government program that provides financial assistance to veterinary colleges in Quebec. The program is designed to help colleges improve the quality of their veterinary education programs.

The MAPAQ program provides funding for a variety of activities, including:

  • Curriculum development and review

  • Faculty development

  • Student support services

  • Research

The MAPAQ program is administered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Quebec (MAPAQ).

To be eligible for the program, a veterinary college must meet certain criteria.

These criteria typically include:

  • The college must be accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).

  • The college must have a quality assurance program in place.

  • The college must be able to demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

The amount of funding that a college receives from the MAPAQ program varies depending on the college's needs and the activities that it undertakes.

The MAPAQ program is a valuable resource for veterinary colleges in Quebec. The program provides funding for activities that help to improve the quality of veterinary education in the province. This, in turn, helps to ensure that graduates of Quebec veterinary colleges are well-prepared to practice veterinary medicine.

In the case of the University of Montreal College of Veterinary Medicine (COMVÉT), the MAPAQ program has helped to support a number of initiatives, including:

  • The development of a new curriculum for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program

  • The creation of a new faculty development program

  • The expansion of student support services

  • The support of research in veterinary medicine

The MAPAQ program has been instrumental in helping COMVÉT to achieve its goal of providing high-quality veterinary education to students in Quebec.
