How to fill a Prescription

  1. From the Pharmacy Fill Queue, click on the Viewer button (binoculars icon) to view the Prescription Fill Form. Each prescription must be filled and approved separately.

  1. The prescription can be reviewed before any action or status change. The top portion of the screen displays the patient information and prescription status and timestamps. The middle section is the prescription details. The lower section shows the patient status (priority), comments, and prescription flag. These fields can be edited at any point and are designed for pharmacy use. This section also show the current bill status and/or which bill this prescription will be billed. There is also a section for any Client/Patient/Episode alerts. This is also a section of all other prescriptions for this patient. At this point the user can perform one of following status changes.

  1. Click on Start Fill will open up the Prescription Fill Form. This changes the status from Approved to In Process. It reserves the prescription for the user who started the fill to indicate to other users who is working on this prescription. The fill form is divided into 4 main sections: Billing and Inventory, Labeling, Preview and Printing, and Review and Issuing.

  1. By default the product selected in the prescription will be selected in the billing section and if there is existing inventory records in the pharmacy inventory area it will be displayed. Additional Billing items can be added for compounding or for other services. Additional inventory records can also be added to properly track what was used.

  1. By default the drug name and instructions will be populated into the labelling fields. Click on Get Rx to obtain the next available Rx # from the pharmacy number pool. There will be an option to copy down the Lot/Mfg/Exp information from the inventory section to quickly fill out these sections of the label. This information is what will appear on the printed label for the product packaging. You may change the product name to be something that is more accurate or more client friendly, within the rules of your state or province's DEA. (These fields will be saved and is searchable from the prescription search screen.) When changes are saved the live preview will automatically update.

  1. In the preview section there is a prescription label format selector that allows for multiple labels to be available. There are also buttons that automatically show network printers available to send the labels to. There is also a Prescription Data Card tab that has a printable version of the prescription that can be printed and retained for pharmacy records.

  1. The final section of the prescription screen allows for changes to be saved, marking the prescription ready for review, and Issuing the prescription. The product quantities will be removed from inventory and the products added to the bill automatically when the prescription is issued. The prescription status will change to Filled. A notice will be sent to the clinician that their prescription has been issued and is available from the pharmacy.
