Unit Setup

Unit Setup

The Unit Setup screen is where you define the units of measurement used throughout VetView (not to be confused with Hospital Units, which are service areas or departments.)

View Existing Units

If you migrated from UVIS or VetStar, your previous units will also migrate.  These are visible under the Unit Setup screen's initial window.

View or Edit Unit Details

Double click on a row to open up Edit Form window below.

FieldDescription
Active FlagThis unit of measurement is active and available throughout the system.  If a unit will no longer be used, it can be set to inactive, which will remove it from the value lists.
UnitThis field is the abbreviated form of the unit of measurement's name.  Special characters can be used for this including percentages and ratios.  For example:  µg/ml, x 10^3 µl, %0, or even whole words like "DROPPERFUL" are valid units.  This controls how the unit will appear in written or printed format.  Units can also be for time, such a Day, Month, Minute, Second, etc.
DescriptionHow the unit name will appear in the value lists.  These can be written out as several words when appropriate. Special characters are also allowed.  For example ML as the unit can have Milliliter(s) as the description to clarify.
Sales UnitIndicates that this unit is available at the lowest level to sell to a customer.  A box, a tablet, or a whole single use bottle can be considered sales units.  These units can be used on Product Setup, and will appear on the patient's bill as the final unit.
Stock UnitIndicates that this unit is available in the Inventory system for stocking.  A large bottle of pharmacy bills, a box containing many smaller boxes, etc.
Order UnitIndicates that this unit is available in the Inventory system for ordering from a vendor.  A case, a pallet, a sheet, etc.
Rx Admin UnitIndicates that this unit is available in the value lists for prescriptions and MARs. Not all units are valid for prescription use, so for those which do not need to be available, they can be unchecked.
Lab UnitIndicates that this unit is available on the Lab Test Setup, Lab Result Setup, Catalog Setup, etc, as a valid unit of measurement on results and reports.  Many lab units are not valid for things like inventory or Rx Admin, in which case those should be left unchecked where appropriate.

Add New Unit

Click on the Add New Record button to load a blank Edit Form and add a new unit.

Click on the Save button to add it to the system.

Merge Units

This feature is useful for cleaning up duplicate units.  Click on Merge Units to begin this process.  A small window will open, and each existing unit will get a Select button next to it.

Click the Select button to choose the units to Merge.  In this example, the unit "foot" is duplicated, and can safely be merged.

The two units selected will now appear on the window.

Click on the Merge button to completed the process.

After the merge, only one unit will remain.
