Labs Specimen Location Setup

Specimen Location Setup

Specimen Location Setup is a new feature in the VetView 2.0 series that allows you to create a hierarchy of locations for specimens.  This allows for concrete specimen tracking throughout an accession, such that the specimen's new location can be scanned via a barcode each time it is moved.

Specimen Location Tree

On the left hand panel is a tree that defines the hierarchical structure of the locations.  Use this to specify the lab location, building, room, and specific storage container for specimens.

Add or Edit Location Details

Select the location to edit on the left, or click on the Add button.  If a location was selected prior to clicking on add, the selected location will default as the Parent.

FieldDescription
Active FlagThis location is active and available in the specimen location search box throughout the system.
Items Can Be Stored HereThis designates the location as physical storage.  If this flag is not checked, it is assumed that this location is included in the hierarchy for description purposes, such as a room number, and that a child location will be used for actual storage.
NameThe name of the location as it will appear in the search menus in the system, and on local reports that use specimen tracking.
DescriptionAdditional description regarding the location.
ParentThe parent location for this specific location in the hierarchy.  Adjust the location will move it to a new location in the tree.
SaveApplies any changes made to the new or edited location.

Locations on the Accession Screen

These Specimen Locations become available on the Accession within the Add and Add Specimen dialog boxes.

As the accession moves from the initial Request or Accession Receiving workflows, this location can be updated accordingly using a barcode scanner and the appropriate API command (in VetView 2.1 versions.)  Otherwise, this location can be adjusted manually at any time.
