Hospital Query Builder Screen

Hospital Query Builder Screen
The Query Builder Screen for Hospital is a tool to allow you to build a custom query data set of patient records, to aid in answering basic research questions. More robust custom queries can also be run with the assistance of your database administrator in your IT team, but for quick answers the Query tool can provide you a good starting point for research as well as links to patient documentation.
For instructions on using the Query Builder tool, please see the How To Use the Hospital Query Builder page. The page you are currently on only contains explanations of the buttons and sections.
Patient Queries
As of version 2.1.6, Hospital Query Builder only performs queries against patient records. For queries against Client records, you will need to contact your hospital admin teams.
Click on Load Selected Query to open up the first set of filter groups.
Filter Groups
Once the query is loaded, the Filter Groups section appears.
Generally, these conditions are best handled by filtering out your largest groups first, then drilling down into specifics. If you only care about one species, then use a species filter group first, and then add sub groups searching for the specific conditions that applied to those species.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Any or All | Choice between "must include all of these conditions" or "includes any of these." This filter applies to any groups that are added, and any sub groups added as a condition of a parent group. |
Add Group | Adds a child condition to all of the filters in the first condition. It will appear in the next section, visually indented. New groups will take into account all conditions that apply to the parent filter. |
Add Filter | Adds an additional included or excluded condition to the query. This will appear directly under the first condition in the same section, visually aligned to the first condition. Use this to add additional criteria. For example, if you are searching for patients that had a specific condition such as renal failure, you could include any patients that were given renal failure as a formal diagnosis, or also had renal failure included in the Master Problem List on an episode. |
Query Parameter | The initial patient parameter that the filter will search for in the patient tables, such as a specific diagnosis, or date ranges pertaining to episode check in or patient age. |
Query Condition | Exclusive or Inclusive. A parameter can be set to "has any of these" or "has none of these." Use the exclusive condition to filter out data that is less relevant to the query, such as patients under a certain age. For Weight and all Dates, this condition selection changes to "within this range" or "between these two" or "not in this range." For "is Deceased" and "weight is approximate" this changes to an option of equals or does not equal, and the selection is an option of Yes or No. |
Query Selection | This box is a multi-select field that will load all of the available options from the selected parameter in the first field. You can search for a single matching condition, or a family of matching conditions this way. Note that these conditions may draw on custom data entered in the system, so if the data was not entered correctly from your clinical staff or wasn't properly set up to begin with, you may have difficulty finding the exact information that you want if it's not available in the drop down menu. (E.g. if spay/neuter is not set up as its own Episode Type, you will need to search for it using another method, such as Product charged on the bill or Request type.) |
Delete Filter | Removes the filter from the query selection. |
Delete Group | Removes the group from the query selection. |
Run Query | Runs the query against the database and displays the results in the Output columns below. |
Delete Filter or Group
You can safely delete a filter or group without impact the underlying data in the system. Query Builder is a read only tool and will not save anything to the database.
Output Columns
You must select at least one output column, but you can customize this data to make it as relevant as possible.
Run Query
Once you have selected your parameters and at least one output column, click on Run Query. This will check the database for all of the matching conditions, and produce a list of the patients that match your criteria.
Patient names and PA#s will load as hot links which can be opened in other tabs by using CTRL+Click.
