Prescription Search Screen

Prescription Search Screen

The Prescription Search Screen is a screen to identify prescriptions that match certain criteria.  Unlike the Fill Queue, which is a working screen only for the most recent prescriptions, the Prescription Search has prescriptions from the entire database available.

Like most of VetView's search screens, it contains two sections:  A box at the top to enter search parameters, and a results box at the bottom containing a list of all the prescriptions that matched the search criteria.

Prescription Search

You can search for prescriptions based on most of the fields available on the prescriptions themselves, as well as certain additional features such as the dates and drug class.

FieldDescription
RX NumberSearch for a specific prescription or series of prescriptions using the prescription number.  Entering a main number and then leaving the refill number blank should load all refills for that prescription too.
PharmacySearch for all prescriptions from a specific pharmacy.
RX TypeSearch for all prescriptions of a specific type.  The type in this case refers to Regular Fill, In Hospital Use, Daily Fill, External Script, CDM Dispensing, CDM Fill, and CDM Orders.  Not all prescription types will be available for each pharmacy.
PatientSearches for prescriptions by patient, either using the case number of the animal ID (Name.)
Patient StatusSearches for prescriptions based on the custom prescription patient status, such as Going Home, Inpatient, Mail Order, etc.   These are the statuses the clinical staff includes with the prescription, independent of the patient's episode status.
OwnerSearch for prescriptions based on an owner's name.
StatusSearches for prescriptions based on the current prescription status, such as requested, approved, filled, rejected, and for CDM Order, Active or Stopped.
SpeciesSearch for prescriptions issued based on species.  When used in conjunction with the specific drug name and a date range, this can generate a list of patient prescriptions for research tasks.
Drug NameSearches for prescriptions based on the specific product (line and sequence) or a product description (useful for whole drug families.)
Date TypeChoice between Date Created, Date Approved, and Date Filled
From and To DatesThe date range to be used in conjunction with the Date Type
Drug Not ListedSearches for prescriptions with the Drug Not Listed flag and a drug name manually entered.  Depending on your pharmacy settings, these may always be External Fill.
Prescription FlagSearches prescriptions based on a custom prescription flag entered by the pharmacy.  This is a keyword search.
Drug ClassSearches for prescriptions based on drug class.  May be useful for generating lists of  prescriptions controlled substances for DEA reporting, but each pharmacy is responsible for ensuring that the report contains the information needed to comply with state law, as VetView does not format this information automatically.
Requested BySearches for prescriptions based on the student or clinical staff member that requested it.
Prescribing DVMSearches for prescriptions based on the listed prescribing DVM who approved it.
Outside Prescribing DVMSearches for prescriptions based on the Outside Prescribing DVM.  Only applicable to prescriptions created using the Fill Outside Rx workflow.
ReservedSearches for prescriptions that are currently reserved based on the user who has it reserved.    Prescriptions can be in any status, including Hold and Cancelled.
Drug on LabelSearches for prescriptions based on the drug name that was entered on the label.  For compounded products, this may be the most efficient way to search for prescriptions, assuming a uniform name was entered on the label.
Lot NumberSearches for prescriptions that were issued based on lot number.  This may be helpful for any potential drug recalls.
PMPSearches for prescriptions for products that have the PMP flag turned on.

Prescription Search Results

The search results will output in list format.  Use CTRL+Click to open patient, owner, or the prescription itself (binocular icon) in a new tab.

Print Prescription Search Results

This opens a preview window containing a PDF of the list of the result, which can then be printed directly or output to CSV format for further processing.

Export PMP File

Export PMP File is a feature that is only intended to be used at hospitals in states participating in the Prescription Monitoring Program.

Select a pharmacy and the appropriate dates, then click on Export PMP File.  The file will be generated in the background and sent directly to the state database as defined under your hospital setup.

For large data sets, this process may take a long time, during which your instance of VetView will not be available.  This file can also be set up to run as part of the Pharmacy Nightly Jobs, during off hours.
