Controlled Drug Machine Setup

Controlled Drug Machine Setup

Product pricing rules set up on the Product Details tab will by default apply to all sales of the product.  However, if the product will be sold through any CDM instead (Cubex, Pyxis, and Omnicell are supported) then you can have special pricing applied to the CDM sales without having to set up a second, identical version of the product.  This allows for better central inventory management, since the CDM and pharmacy stock can both draw from the same central supply.

If the CDM is set to follow the routing rule "Product Setup" then it will use the settings you have put on this page to determine how a product is handled.

Enable the CDM Tab

Under the Product Setup page, the Product Setup options allows you to turn on and off the tabs for each product.  When a tab is invisible, the rules within have been turned on.

Click on the Control Drug Machine Setup to turn on the tab and set up the options for this product.

CDM Information

When you first open up the CDM tab on a product screen, the options for price override, bill transactions, and the patient record should all be turned off.

To have the transaction appear on an open order, turn on Bill Transactions.  This should be the standard for any non prescription items that are stored in CDMs but are still billable to the client, such as bandaging material,

To have the transaction appear on the patient's record, choose to either Generate Prescription or to Generate Medication Record.  The Medication Record option is available for non-prescription items that may still need labeling information, such as a shampoo or flea collars.

If None is selected, then the item will only appear on the patient's open order, and will not appear on the medical record itself.

We include a price calculator that will allow you to see how this product will normally be billed according to the rules under Product Details.

The Default Instructions and Default Comment apply to prescriptions, and if this is a pharmaceutical product that may need dosage instructions on client labeling, it should be added here to ensure that the label is printed correctly.

Enable Price Override

This setting opens additional windows that allows you to adjust how the product is billed. If you need to charge sales tax on this product, for example, you can turn the specific tax for this kind of product on within this tab.

This setting also allows you to use a special price for CDM pulls that is different from the standard price sets for the product.

You can also set a special fee for CDM draws that is separate from the normal service fees that apply to the product.
