Product Tax Category Setup subtab

  • Provides the ability to create, edit, and inactivate Product Tax Categories.

  • A Product Tax Category can be associated to products and services in order to apply sales taxes within the tax jurisdiction, based on the jurisdiction's definition of product categories, and application of tax rates.
  • When a product or service is added to an order, the sales taxes will be calculated based on the Tax Rate that is associated to the Tax Jurisdictions contained within the Tax Region where the item was purchased/delivered, and the Product Tax Category that is assigned to the product.
    • Name and Description - The name is used throughout VetView when selecting the Product Tax Category.
    • Code - A short code that can be used when space is limited on screens and reports.

Tax Region Setup subtab

  • Provides the ability to create, edit, and inactivate Tax Regions.

    • A Tax Region defines a geographic area that may be impacted by one, or more, Tax Jurisdictions.
    • Tax Jurisdictions represent the tax authority responsible for establishing the jurisdiction and statutes that define what is taxable, and at what tax rate.
    • Regions don't overlap, but jurisdictions can; therefore, regions can contain many jurisdictions, and jurisdictions can be included in several regions.
    • When a product or service is added to an order, the sales taxes will be calculated based on the Tax Rate that is associated to the Tax Jurisdictions contained within the Tax Region where the item was purchased/delivered, and the Product Tax Category that is assigned to the product.

    • Tax ID - The Jurisdiction-assigned Tax ID that will be displayed on the invoice of taxable products and services.
    • Tax Rate - A valued, expressed as a percentage of the taxable revenue, to be collected from the client and remitted to the Tax Jurisdiction.
      • Product Tax Category - A Tax Rate is assigned to a Product Tax Category, which is assigned to a product to determine the Tax Rate to be applied.
      • Start and End Date - Tax Rates may change over time, so each rate is associated to a timeframe for which it is valid.  For each Product Tax Category, within a Jurisdiction, the timeframes may not overlap.
