How do I use the Active prescriptions tab?

The Active Prescriptions tab contains a list of the most relevant prescriptions in the patient history.

These are separated out into several sections:

  • Requested and Waiting for Approval
  • Approved and Being Filled (in the pharmacy queue)
  • Available Refills
  • Unexpired and Active prescriptions (previously issued prescriptions for which the label expiration date has not yet passed

This tab also allows you to also add a new prescription, edit a requested prescription, and approve a requested prescription.

To Refill a prescription, click on the blue refill counter next to the prescription number to open the refill dialogue box. (See How to Refill a Prescription for more information.)

How do I use the Daily Fills tab?

If your hospital utilizes the Daily Fill process to provide medication for inpatients, then this tab will show a history of any medications dispensed as part of that workflow, as well as any active Daily Fill prescriptions that have been issued today or will be issued tomorrow.

Prescriptions which are Approved for tomorrow can be cancelled from this screen by clicking on the Cancel icon. next to the prescription name.

If a patient is Discharged from the hospital, then all of tomorrow's prescriptions for Daily Fills will also automatically cancel.  You will need to issue a new prescription with Go Home labeling selected to create a version of the prescription that is intended for client usage.

Note
titleFilled does not mean Administered

If your hospital has the Daily Fill job API turned on, then all prescriptions that are still active will be automatically set to Filled in the morning after the job has run, and they can be printed into a list and prepared, and have their labels printed in a batch, without having to manually process each prescription.

Once the prescriptions have been delivered, it will still be up to each unit to give the medication to each inpatient, and if needed, track the MAR for the daily fills which require a medication administration record.  The Daily Fill process does not fill out the MAR!

How do I use the Control Drug Machine Dispensing tab?

If a patient has received any medication from a Controlled Drug Machine that is routed to the patient record as a prescription, it will appear on this tab.

Other options for items dispensed from a CDM include Medication or Bill Only.  If an item is set to be Bill Only, it will only appear on the episode's order, and not in the Prescription or Medication tabs.

Items issued from VetView will also print on the Vaccine Record which can be provided to the client as proof of immunization.

This tab also includes a list of any Client Reported medication.  For the purposes of the Vaccine Report, client reported medications are not included, but they do provide background information for the patient's history.

How do I use the Complete History tab?

The Complete History tab is a list of all prescriptions that have ever been issued for the patient, throughout their visits at your hospital.  This list may be very long, but the prescriptions are sorted in chronological order by Rx Date, so the most recent prescriptions should appear at the top, regardless of status.  However, the columns can be sorted, in case you want to see the oldest prescriptions first, or sort by any other column header such as Drug Name, Prescribing DVM, or Episode.
