This page has been updated to reflect changes in the system for version 1.6.5.

The product details section allows you to define the price settings, applicable taxes, and other information pertaining to this product on one screen.

The Product Details tab is broken down into many different sections.  Each one is discussed below.

 Product Pricing

The product pricing section contains the various base price attributes for this product.  You can also enable various modifiers, such as prescription volume discounts or markups.

Fractional quantity indicates that this product may be sold as partial units, such as 0.25 bottle or 0.5 box.  For products which must be sold in whole units, keep this disabled.

For products for which the price should always be fixed, such as shipping fees, you can disable the client type discount to always charge the full amount.

 Selected Taxes

The selected taxes lets you apply the specific tax that must be collected on this product, based on your state or province's laws.  Taxes are customized under Tax Setup.

 Price Calculator

The Price Calculator is a tool included on this tab as well as the Controlled Drug Machine tab.

This tool allows you to preview the final cost of a product for a client type, based on the settings in the Product Pricing section plus any other Service Fees defined in the service fee section.

Client type price sets are defined under Price Set Setup.

If the calculated price is too low or too high based on your settings, you can modify them and then rerun the calculator to see how the price changed.

 Reorder Quantities

Reorder Quantities allow you to define the minimum amount of stock you should have on hand for this product, before it should be reordered.

You can use historical sales information or Just-in-time inventory management to adjust these numbers as necessary.

 Default Vendor's Product Info

If this product has a default vendor assigned (under the Inventory tab) you can modify the information provided by that vendor for their stock of the product in this section.

 Prior 2 Purchase Orders

This section gives you a brief overview of the last two purchase orders that included this product.

 Service Fee / Add-on Definitions

If you charge a service fee for a specific type of product, e.g. a pharmacy product, and it does not need to be listed in its own line item, you can include it automatically in the price of the product by adding it here.

Fees that require their own line item on a bill should instead be listed as their own separate product.

 Product Notes

The product notes section is included to give you a place to store any other information about this product that you need to record, but which is not accounted for in the base VetView software.  These are simple comments.

 Synonym Definitions

The synonym section allows you to associate other similar products or product names that are related to this product, so that if a user enters in that word as a search string, this product can appear.

This can include brand names vs generic names, or an internal nickname you have for a specific product.

 Alternate ID Definitions

This section allows you to associate an alternate ID number with this product.  Vetview supports barcodes for stock and sales, CDM product numbers (if different from your regular line and sequence number), identical products on the lab software, or any other internal numbering system you need to associate with this product.
