Multi-Item Tab
The Multi-Item Tab can be turned on by toggling the Multi-Item switch under Product Setup Options.
This tab allows you to define products that pull separately from your inventory, but are intended to be sold together, such as surgery kit or pharmacy compound medicine. Unlike Patient Packages, which allow for services and products to be charged across multiple visits, a multi-item product is simpler and is designed to be added as a single line item on a patient's order.
Add Product to This Multi-Item product
Click on the Add Product button to start building out the multi-item definition. A window will open to allow you to search for the inventory items to include.
Once added, the product will appear in the list on this tab.
As many products as needed can be rolled into a single multi-item. When the patients bill is closed, these child items will be withdrawn from inventory at the same time as the stocked parent multi-item.
Fees can also be included, such as a compounding fee for pharmaceutical items that require preparation, or other service fees as appropriate.
Pricing Types
There are three pricing options for a mult-item product:
- Set: The entire item will have a single price set. You can use this to provide a discount, such as a "puppy's first vet visit" kit that includes dental chews, a harness, puppy pads, etc at a slight discount compared to the total sum of each item.
- Select: You can pick and choose which items you want to charge for. For example, if you want to provide the syrup for a compound at no charge, but instead charge a compounding fee for an item, you can have the syrup added but not checked on this page. This will draw it from inventory but not charge the client.
- Sum: The total extended price for the multiple item will be what is charged to the client. This total appears on the bottom row after all the products are listed.
Service Fees
Service Fees should be added to the Product Details tab of a product if the fee should be charged once for the entire product. If the fee should be charged for multiple quantities of the product, then it can be added to the Multi-Item Definition instead.
For example, compounding to a liquid to be resold in a bottle can have a single compounding fee charged. However, compounding into individually wrapped chews or doses may instead charge the fee for each created multi-item product sold.
The Pricing Type you choose will then appear on the Product Details tab.
Packaging Types
If all items are consumed the moment this product is sold, then the packing type of Items Are Not Separable should be chosen.
If an item has components that can be added back into the inventory, then the packing type of Items Can Be Reused should be selected.
VetView has plans to improve mult-item products in future versions. For now, the products will not be removed from inventory until they are sold. In our Inventory Improvements, currently scheduled for version 2.1, we intend to allow compounded products to be consumed from inventory upon product creation and addition to inventory, not ad hoc as items are sold. This should improve inventory tracking for commonly used pharmacy compounding ingredients.
