The Labs Catalog allows you to link a test to a specific lab, section, and workstation, and also to required questions, charges, printing options, and allowed specimens. This page is comprised of two screens, the Catalog Search and Results, and the Catalog Item Setup screen. Catalog Item SearchTo search for an existing Catalog Item, start by typing in part of the label, or selecting a laboratory. You can also filter by selecting only active or inactive catalog items. Catalog Item ListWhen you first load the Catalog Setup screen, all of the existing catalog items will appear with pagination available. Filter using the Catalog Item Search to narrow the list down. After clicking on the Search button, a list of all the matching catalog items will appear. Very high level details will also appear on each row. New Catalog ItemTo add a new catalog item, click on the New Catalog Item button. A blank Catalog Item Setup screen will load. Many options will not be available on this screen until you have entered the underlined information under the Catalog Item Setup window. Enter in the following:
Click on the Save button at the top to apply the changes. The description can also be entered prior to saving, but it is optional. Back to ListClick on this to return to the previous screen. Edit Catalog ItemTo editing an existing Catalog item, select the row and click on the Edit Catalog item button. This will load the Catalog Setup Screen for the item. You can also get to this screen for the item by clicking on the Catalog Code, which is a hyperlink that will jump to the screen. To open the Catalog Setup Screen for an item in a new tab, use the CTRL+Click method on these hyperlinks. Catalog Item SetupThe Catalog Item Setup screen is comprised of small sections that control each aspect of the Catalog Item. Not every Catalog item will need to use each feature. Catalog Item SetupThis is the same section that appears when you click on the New Catalog Item button. This section can be changed and saved again as necessary. Note that changing the Catalog Code may have effects throughout other parts of the system - specifically if this test can by ordered by VetView Hospital, or if the test code is sent to an external testing machine such as IDEXX. If the Catalog Code is changed within Catalog Setup, make sure it is changed in those other places that utilize it, Accounting and Catalog FilteringThis section links the Catalog Item to a specific lab, section, or workstation. In order for the test to be available to the rest of the system, it must at minimum be associated with a Lab. The section and workstation are optional, as not all labs will have those set up. QuestionsA Questions on a Catalog Item can be any request for additional information that the user submitting the request for an accession should provide.
These can be any series of questions and answers that have been defined under the Question Setup screen. ChargesThis section links the Catalog Item to a Product, as defined under the Product Setup Screen. This is where you can have the specific charge for each test in an accession, or a charge for multiple tests in a single catalog item (such as a blood panel that will require multiple different tests.) Lab Accession fees and other fees will be added to the invoices separately from the individual catalog item charges. This charge is only for the specific catalog item. Auto Printing OptionsFor certain catalog items, you may want to have a report print automatically. You can set up a link to the print for the report, as well as the specific report, for each catalog item. Reports can also always be printed manually based on the rules of the Accession itself. TestsThis section links the Catalog Item (the actual object that your clients are ordering) with the indiivudual tests within VetView Labs. By keeping the tests and catalog items separate and distinct, you can include multiple tests within many catalog items, without having to repeat setup of the tests. This also allows you to keep your test results and metrics better defined and aggregated for research projects. For example, a CBC + Diff and a CBC (No Diff) would have the same tests, except the No Diff would omit the Differential blood count test in the catalog item. For all other tests that are shared between the two catalog items, the results would be recorded the same and be accessible together under Test Search.
Related ItemsThis section can be used to link two frequently ordered Catalog Items together. Specimen FilteringFor Catalog Items that can only be performed using a specific specimen or types of specimens, the restrictions can be added in this section.
Search EntriesThis section controls how the catalog item will appear on the VetView Portal and within the search pages of the VetView application.
Click on the Add button to add a new search entry listing.
As an example, this is how the setup for ACTH will cause it to appear on the VetView Portal, based on the Search Entries setup. (Specimen Filtering on this entry is included for demonstration purposes as well, although these are not intended to be representative specimens for this test.) |
