Import Excel Sheet into Spreadsheet Element

This page contains future plans for VetView and does not reflect any released version.

For multi-patient documents only, the Import List from Spreadsheet feature should appear within the Spreadsheet Header portion of the digital document.

 Import Process

Click on Import List from Spreadsheet to open the function to import data from an outside source.

After selecting the file to import (standard upload dialog box), a window will open to allow for column to column matching. The Import feature should detect the header rows, read columns from the spreadsheet, and then allow the user to drag and drop the basic files necessary to create patient records.

Preview Import will display a text only version of the rearranged spreadsheet, to allow a user to confirm that the columns were matched correctly. A button that says “Complete Import” should appear on this page to finish the process.

After clicking it, a box should appear that says “Importing records – this may take several minutes” should pop up. When creating the new patient record, the system should apply the defaults for the group patient to the individual new patient record, e.g. species and breed. New patient records should also pull down the existing client connection for the Group Patient.
• If an animal ID already exists, the import process should NOT create a new record, but should simply associate the new data with the existing patient.
• A toast message should appear at the bottom of the screen that indicates progress on creating records for the imported animals.

• The import process should cross check any existing patients to see if 1. They are associated with any group patient already and 2. If they are, if it is a different group patient.
• If the group patient is different, it should prompt (one by one) to confirm that this animal’s group patient association is being moved to the new group patient.

Existing Patient Lookup

  • The spreadsheet element should include an Animal ID lookup for all multi-patient documents.
  • This feature should be tied into the Patient combo box within the multi-patient spreadsheet header.
  • To facilitate ease of entering data, Animal ID Lookup will jump straight to the row of an existing patient who is already part of the imported Group Patient list, and load the basic patient information into the spreadsheet header.
  • The row for the animal ID that matches should also highlight, to show that it is the correct match.

TPR data and other data may then be added to the spreadsheet element header, and saved to the spreadsheet

Creating New Patients

  • If no patient has been found on the spreadsheet using the filter button, the other fields within the header element remain blank. The user can fill these in before saving the TPR data for the patient.
  • Users can delete rows at any time. Deleting the row should display a prompt, “Are you sure?”
  • New patients created via this spreadsheet should have a patient record for them created in the background.
