Provides the ability to create, edit, and inactivate Tax Jurisdictions.
Tax Jurisdictions represent the tax authority responsible for establishing the jurisdiction and statutes that define what is taxable, and at what tax rate.
A Tax Region defines a geographic area that may be impacted by one, or more, Tax Jurisdictions.
Regions don't overlap, but jurisdictions can; therefore, regions can contain many jurisdictions, and jurisdictions can be included in several regions.
When a product or service is added to an order, the sales taxes will be calculated based on the Tax Rate that is associated to the Tax Jurisdictions contained within the Tax Region where the item was purchased/delivered, and the Product Tax Category that is assigned to the product.
Features of the Tax Jurisdiction:
Jurisdiction Name- Used throughout VetView when selecting the Tax Jurisdiction, to identify charges for multiple tax jurisdictions, and to group taxes on the 'Sales Tax' report.
Tax ID- The Jurisdiction-assigned Tax ID that will be displayed on the invoice of taxable products and services.
Tax Rate - A valued, expressed as a percentage of the taxable revenue, to be collected from the client and remitted to the Tax Jurisdiction.
Product Tax Category - A Tax Rate is assigned to a Product Tax Category, which is assigned to a product to determine the Tax Rate to be applied.
Start and End Date - Tax Rates may change over time, so each rate is associated to a timeframe for which it is valid. For each Product Tax Category, within a Jurisdiction, the timeframes may not overlap.
