User Profile

User Profile

The User Profile screen is where an individual user can make adjustments to their settings.  While access controls are handled by an administrator, users are allowed to change non-access items such as their external email address, certain menu and screen defaults, their name as it appears on the system screen and reports, and their text and digital signatures.

When changes are made on this screen, a Save button will appear in the top left hand corner.    The Save button must be pressed to apply the changes.

User Information

This section defines the common information that is used in both Labs and Hospital for report info fields and screen displays.

Name and Display Name

FieldDescription
First NameThe first name in the system as it will be used in reporting.
Middle NameThe middle name in the system as it will be used in reporting.
Last NameThe last name in the system as it will be used in reporting.
Display NameThe name that will appear on the screen throughout the system.  If desired, this can be different from the names that will be used in reporting.
LanguageThe language that will be used in Localization.  When a Localization Code does not exist in the selected language, the system default language will be used.

Contact Information

This section defines how VetView is allowed to contact the user via automated communications.  VetView's internal mail system will always send the messages, but they can also be bounced out to email or a cell phone in text message if you have a texting service set up via the API.  This method may be very useful for clinicians who are not always at a computer, but need to approve prescriptions, accept requests, or verify documentation for their students on a daily basis.

FieldDescription
EmailThe email that will be associated with the user account.  Depending on whether your hospital uses CAS or LDAP, this can potentially be different from the email username required for sign-in.
Enable EmailThese options will bounce any VetView mail messages over to the user's selected email address using the email service defined in your API.  System mail messages include prescriptions, requests, approvals, etc.  User mail messages are direct messages sent from one user to another in VetView mail.  Email messages can include hot links to open certain VetView screens directly when viewed on a supported device.
Cell PhoneThe cell phone number for SMS messaging if that is supported by your hospital.
CarrierThe cell phone carrier for SMS messaging.  The carrier must be defined for most text message services to work.
Enable Cell PhoneThese options will bounce any VetView mail messages over to the selected cell phone via text message.

Digital Signature

The Digital Signatures are used in Report Info to pull in either the text signature of the user, or in the case of the signature line, the image of the digital signature.

The digital image section is password protected for additional security.

FieldDescription
EditThis button opens an extra window to hand draw a signature.  This option is best done using a stylus or a touchscreen, as mouse signatures may be difficult.
UploadUpload a scanned signature image from the local machine.  This option may be better for users who do not have access to a stylus or a touchscreen.
Test SignatureThe text version of the signature.  This will appear in the Report Info that pulls in a standard user signature as well as alongside the Digital Signature image when that option is used.

Edit Digital Signature

When the Edit button is clicked, a small window will open.  This option is password protected.  The mouse can be used, but VetView recommends that this option be used alongside a stylus or touchscreen as precision control may be difficult with a mouse.

After entering the password, click on Apply to save the changes.  This image will be used in Report Info until a new one is applied or uploaded.

Change Password

Users with a local account and not a managed authentication like CAS, LDAP, or Jazz will be abled to change their passwords.  For external authentication, passwords are managed outside of VetView.

Laboratory Options

These options allow the user to set their preferred defaults if they have Lab Access.

Default Home Page is either/or for Hospitals and Labs.  If one is selected, the other will automatically be de-selected, as there can only be one home page at a time.  Users with access to both systems can freely change between the two using the Access button at the very top left of the screen.  This button can also be CTRL+Clicked to open the other system in a new tab.

FieldDescription
Default Home PageChanges the default home page from Hospitals to Labs.  If users only have access to Labs, this will automatically be the default.
NotificationsGrants users the option to disable certain pop up warnings in the system.  Not all warnings can be turned off.
Result Entry: Auto Finalize on EnterTurns on the option to Auto Finalize an accession by pressing the enter key.  This option may be useful for high throughput lab environments where the enter key is unlikely to be used for any other purpose.
Result Entry: Single Click to Add MacroChanges the macro window from requiring a double click to add a macro to only requiring a single click, for users who prefer one touch entry.
Default LaboratoryThis menu contains a list of all the Labs in VetView that the user is a member of.  When a default is selected, that lab will become pre-loaded in all Lab drop down menu selectors.
Default SectionThis menu contains a list of all the sections associated with the Default Lab.  When a default is selected, that section will become pre-loaded in all Section drop down menu selectors.
Default WorkstationThis menu contains a list of all workstations associated with the Default Section.  When a default is selected, that workstation will become pre-loaded in all Workstation drop down selectors.
Manage Automatic PrintingOpens the Manage Automatic Printing Window.

Manage Automatic Printing (Labs)

VetView allows Lab users the option of assigning specific printers to their reports.  For users who are assigned permanently to one section or workstation, this will allow the reports to print automatically from an accession based on statuses.  The specific report that prints is defined by the Catalog, but it will automatically go to the chosen printer.

Optionally, PDF can be selected as the automatic printer, allowing the user to preview the report first.

Hospital Options

These options allow the user to set their preferred defaults if they have Hospital access.

FieldDescription
Default Home PageChanges the default home page from Labs to the Hospital if the user has access to both.
NotificationsWhen this flag is turned on, certain notification pop ups will be disabled.  Not all pop ups can be turned off.
Default UnitChanges the default unit.  The drop down menu only shows the units that the user is already a member of.  The default unit will pre-load into Unit drop down menus throughout the system.
Default Prescription TypeThis allows a user who writes prescriptions the option to have a prescription automatically default to a specific type.  For example, overnight staff who routinely request CDM draws may choose to have that type pre-loaded on the Prescription Request screen.
Default Patient Record ViewAllows the user to select between the various tabs on the patient record to be the first when loading a patient.  For users who primarily issue prescriptions, it may make sense to have the Prescriptions tab be first.  For students, it may make sense to have the Patient Summary tab so they can review the patient's history.  By default, if nothing else is selected, the Visit Summary tab will load.
Patient Record FilterPre-loads this unit in the Patient Episode selector on the left panel of the Visits tab.
Inventory ShippingAny delivered items that should be directed to this user can be sent to this address.
Request DialogWhen this option is turned on, the Request dialog will automatically open in Pick List mode as opposed to Catalog Selector mode.
Manage Automatic PrintingOpens the Manage automatic printing window.

Manage Automatic Printing (Hospital)

For users who frequently print reports, such as cashier and accounting transactions, this window allows you to select the printer for these reports to go to.

Adobe PDF allows the user to preview the report before printing.

Diagnosis Coding Options

For clinical staff who routinely use a specific subset of Diagnosis codes, the subset can be pre-loaded in the Diagnosis box.  This removes the step of having to select the subset first, and allows the clinician to immediately begin searching based on keyword.
