What is a Specimen Location?
The Specimen Location is the designated storage space for a specimen within VetView. These locations are defined under Lab Setup in the Specimen Location Setup screen.
These locations are flexible and can be mapped to physical locations within your lab space, using a customizable tree structure.
In this example, we have several Lab Sections set up, in addition to the Lab’s main Accession Receiving location. Underneath Accession Receiving, we have a series of Receiving Workstations, and bins within those workstations to sort out where each of the specimens will ultimately end up going for additional processing.
Once they have been created, this location is available for any specimen on any screen that utilizes Specimen Location.
How do I find my specimen’s current location?
Specimen locations can be assigned or changed at any point once an accession and its associated specimens have been created, regardless of the screen from which it was created.
How do I assign a location to a newly created specimen from the Accession screen?
The Locations defined under Specimen Location Setup will show up in a drop down menu under the Add Patient and Add Specimen dialog boxes on the Accession Screen.
How do I find my specimen’s current location from the Accession?
The Specimen Location on an accession should display on the same line as the Specimen itself.
How do I find my specimen’s current location using the Specimen Tracking screen?
The Specimen Tracking screen displays all the specimens within VetView Labs based on search parameters. It also includes details, such as the current location, and whether the specimen is associated with a batch.
If you know the accession number of the specimen you can search by that, or you can search against the sampled dates, the batch number, or many other parameters.
The location will appear on the same row as the specimen result.
How do I find my specimen’s current location using the Specimen Tracking App?
Scan the barcode for the specimen (or search by accession number, batch number, or pattern number) to display the current known location for a specimen or batch of specimens. You may need to click on the enter key if you are searching manually.
The location will display in the accession tree next to the specimen number and type.
How do I change my Specimen’s Location?
The location of a specimen can be changed at any time within the VetView Application or within the Specimen Tracking application.
How do I change a single specimen’s location in the Specimen Tracking App?
If you need to move a single specimen, you can click on the Transfer Single Specimen button on the Quick Lookup screen.
This will take you to the Transfer Station screen to allow you to adjust the location of the individual specimen.
Click on the Transfer button to change the location. A success message will flash on the row to show that the specimen location was changed.
A record of all specimens changed will appear in the Transfer History. This history can be printed for daily records if required.
How do I change the location of a whole batch within the Specimen Tracking app?
Search for the batch by its Batch ID. Tab or click enter to load the specimens within the Batch.
Select the new location from the Location drop down menu above the Transfer button, then click on Transfer to apply the location change for the whole batch.
How do I change my specimen’s location from the accession in VetView?
The Specimen Location can be changed by editing the specimen itself on the Accession tree.
Choose the new location from the Location drop down menu, and then click on Save to apply the changes.
Changing a single specimen’s location will automatically drop that specimen from its Batch. To change the location of an entire batch of specimens, you’ll need to use the Specimen Batch Search Screen.
