TPR Setup Screen
The TPR Setup Screen has been moved from the Hospital Setup Screen to the main Hospital Screen Listing under Navigation, to its own screen.
This change was to allow for a non-administrative clinical staff member to gain access to the screen and control the TPRs for their Hospital unit, or all Hospital units.
In 5.0, TPRs can be customized more completely. You can add or remove base attributes, and add custom attributes.
A base TPR template named Vitals will be included with the migration scripts for 5.0 and with each new installation of VetView Hospital. This Vitals TPR can be used right away in all episodes in the system; you do not need to add any additional TPRs unless you want to make a custom one.
Field | Description |

Data Item Categories | A list of the TPRs currently in the systems, and the menu to control their display. |
New (Button) | Add a new TPR to the system. This will open a WYSIWYG form to build the display of the TPR using palette elements. |
Edit (Button) | Edit the selected TPR from the list below. |
Up (Button) | Sort the selected TPR up on the list. |
Down (Button) | Sort the selected TPR down on the list. |
Add New TPR (New Button)
Click on the New button to start created a new custom TPR. Give this new TPR a name, and assign it to a record group. You can also choose to add a custom icon to it, if you want.
Data Item Category Field | Description |
---|---|
Name | The name you want to give this custom TPR. For clarity, you may want to name this the same thing as the unit or the purpose of the TPR, such as Anesthesia or Large Animal Wellness. |
Active Flag | Indicates that this TPR is currently active in the system, and available to be used on medical records. |
Record Group | The record group where this TPR will appear. By default, TPRs appear in their own vitals category, but surgeries or weigh-ins can go into those record groups instead, |
Icon Name | The name of the custom icon that will display for this TPR. |
Brown Button | Opens a local folder on the system to search for a custom icon for the TPR. Any gif, jpg, or png that is at least 16x16 can be used. Icons will be scaled up or down to 32x32 pixels in size. |
Save/Cancel | Saves the changes you made to this TPR, or cancels without saving any changes. |
Data Items on the Custom TPR
After clicking on the Save button, the new custom TPR appears on the list. Select the TPR that you want to modify. Then click on the New button to start adding data items to the list.

New (Button) | Opens up the window to select a data item to add to the custom TPR. |
Up Button | Moves the selected data item up in the list. |
Down Button | Moves the selected data item down in the list. |
Sort List Button | Sorts the list either alphabetically, or maintains the current order and reassigns the numerical sort value in the database. |
Data Item Settings
Each data item can have a custom name, or you can name the data item after the type of data selected to keep things simple.
The different types of data items available on TPRs are:
Temperature
Weight
Numbers (for pulse, respiration, body condition score, etc)
Text fields
Rich text fields
Value Lists
These custom TPR elements allow you to add additional places to document the patient’s condition beyond temperature, pulse, and respiration.
Data Items Settings Field | Description |
---|---|
Save | Saves the settings and adds the Data Item to the list. |
Name | The name of the data item as it will appear on the TPR in the patient record. This can be simple and match the name of the data element, or more complex to describe a custom field setting. |
Data Item Type | Choice between temperature, weight, number elements (for pulse and respiration), text fields, and value lists. Both weight and number results allow for specific controls, such as precision and special characters, or displaying a charted graph. Pure number results also allow for selection of the unit of measurement, drawn from the custom Unit Setup screen. |
Additional Info | If this field has data, an info dot appears next to the data item in the TPR with instructions. For example, if you are using a body condition score on a scale of 1-9, an explanation of the scale can be added behind this info dot as a teaching tool. |
Species Filters | A TPR data element can be available for all species, or you can limit this data element only to certain species where it makes sense. For example, measuring height at the shoulders may make sense for large animal, but less so for small animal species, which would instead be measured from toe to tail tip. |
Custom Species Limits
In addition to setting species filters, you can also set minimum and maximum parameters on a per species basis. This can help prevent accidental data entry errors by establishing upper and lower boundaries.
There can also be Low and High flags for certain parameters, to help guide the clinical staff in the most customary values for the species.
Species Limit Fields | Description |
---|---|
Species | A species drop down selector to choose which species these limits will be applied to. |
Label | The name of the species as you want it to appear in the list. |
Min | The minimum accepted value for this parameter for this species. |
Low | The lowest expected value for a healthy member of this species when at rest. |
High | The highest expected value for a healthy member of this species when at rest. |
Max | The maximum value that this field can accept. This value is primarily intended to prevent typos; no species can have 999 breaths per minute, for example! |
Save/Cancel | Saves the current changes and adds the species to the list, or cancels out and does not save the changes. |
Additional Reference Ranges and Alerts
