Macro Setup Screen

The Macro Setup tab from Catalog Setup has been moved to its own setup screen. Access to this screen is now controlled by the new privilege Hospital Macro List Setup.

Only Global Macros are controlled on this screen. These macros are available for all results on all Hospital Documents and other text fields. In VetView 5.0, we now allow for local macros to be added to Documents and Requests for macros that will only be used on that specific document and nowhere else in the Hospital system. This allows for Global macros to be reserved only for those which are truly universal, such as lists of medication instructions or a common hospital disclaimer.

Search Macros

You can search for macros by the macro name, or by options such as the macro type or the user who created it. You can also filter by active/inactive macros to find macros that were previously created but disabled in the past.

Matching macros will appear under the Macro section on this screen.

Rich text vs Plain Text Macros

Rich text macros include HTML formatting such as bold, italics, underlines, different font sizes, and font colors.

Plain text macros are only text and do not include any formatting.

You can limit results by one type or the other in conjunction with the search terms or the user.

Macro Lists can only be rich text or plain text. If you have macros that were previously plain text but you want to make them rich text for formatting, you will need to make a new macro list in Rich Text and copy the macro to the new list to apply formatting.

Search by User

You can limit macros to only the ones created by a specific user.

However, not all macros will be associated to a user. If a macro was saved as a Global macro in earlier versions of VetView or even in UVIS, there may not be an employee linked to it.

If the macro is linked to an employee, but the macro is not actually linked to a result that is currently used on a document, the employee’s name will display as red. This is an indication that it should be safe to delete the macro from the Macro List, especially if there is an identical macro elsewhere on the list not associated with a user.

If a macro is linked to an employee, but not actually linked to any documents, the employee name will display in red so you know it is safe to delete. This can be because the employee is no longer active, or that the macro itself was newly created and not linked to anything yet.

Macro List

The Macro List displays the name of the document or request result that has these global macros associated with it.

Add New Global Macro List

You can add a new Global Macro list that will be available for all Documents, Requests, and other text fields by clicking on the New button.

You can keep it inactive until you are ready to make it available to the rest of the hospital.

Edit Existing Global Macro List

You can rename a macro list name or set it to inactive. This can be helpful if you are in the process of determining which macros can be safely merged to one another, or simply to help differentiate between Global Macros that have identical names even if the macro lists are slightly different.

Merge Macro Lists

If you have redundant macro lists, you can Merge them. This will replace the link on the macros so that the merged macro list becomes available, replacing the one you are merging into it.

Rename the macro list that will be deleted, if they have the same name, to help differentiate them.

Select the one that will be deleted during the merge, and click on the Merge button.

Select the value list that you want to merge. A list of the results that this Macro List will be linked to will display in the window below.

Once the Merge process is complete, the replacement Macro set will appear on all the documents where the previous macro set was linked.

Delete Macro Lists

If you will no longer use a Macro List, and you don’t want to relink the results to a different macro list, you can simply delete it. All Global Links will be deleted from the results on the documents.

This is also accomplished on the Merge by leaving the selected Merge option blank.

Macros

When you select a Macro List, all the macros on the list appear in the Macros panel immediately to the right.

Add New Macro

To add a new macro to a list, click on the Add button. A new blank Edit Macro panel will open to the right right of the list of macro items. Once you fill in details and save, the macro name will appear in the list of Macros in the middle panel.

Global macros on Catalog Setup

On the Macro section of a catalog result, these will appear in the list exactly as they appear here.

Global Macros on the Patient Record

The list will appear when you click on the Macros Icon. On the patient record, you will also get a text preview of the macro item.

Edit Macro Panel

This panel is there the actual contents of a macro can be edited. You can also delete a macro from a Macro List if it will no longer be used in your system.

Add Placeholders

Macros in VetView have the option to automatically import certain fields directly from the patient record, such as patient demographic information, client information, RDVM and clinic information, and even billing and medical record information.

You can use a blend of placeholders and text intended to be added manually to create custom letters and documents within the patient record.

New Placeholders in 5.0

In addition to all the existing placeholders for Macros, new placeholders available in VetView 5.0 include Medications, TPRs, and Vaccinations Reported. These placeholders function the same as the Report Info data types on a document, but automatically pull the information into the macro text set.
