Patient Details and Contacts Tab

In Version 5.0 of VetView, several patient tabs have been consolidated into one unified Patient Details and Contacts tab.

On this page, you can still modify the patient’s basic attributes. You can also now change contact information, and modify the patient’s tags.

Patient Details Panel

This section contains the demographic information for the patient.

Certain automatic actions, such as a document that is marked to spay/neuter or to mark the patient as euthanized, will automatically save the changes directly to this section as well.

Client/Patient Relationships Panel

This section lists all the permanent clients associated with a patient.

Inactive clients, like a previous RDVM, are also listed here, to preserve the prior relationship in case the information is needed in the future.

Use CTRL+Click on a client name to open a client record in another tab.

Episode Contacts are different from permanent Client/Patient Relationships. At the creation of an episode, the episode contacts will inherit the current snapshot of patient contacts, but you can also add temporary episode contacts separate from the patient’s permanent contacts.

For example, if they had been referred by an emergency veterinarian that is different from their primary RDVM, the emergency vet would be better marked as a single episode contact, while preserving their primary RDVM relationship at the patient level.

Add New Contact

You can add a new contact to the patient directly from this portion of the patient record.

The Add New Contact button will bring up the same weighted search window as the rest of the system, allowing you to search for any existing clients, or to add a new one directly to the patient record.

Modify Client Contacts

The Client Context Menu that is available on right click allows you to make changes to the permanent client/patient relationships.

You can change which owner is considered the primary, change which RDVM or clinic is the primary, control access to medical communications, and grant formal release of information to non-owner contacts (such as emergency contacts if your hospital offers boarding.)

You can also set contacts Inactive if they will no longer be a primary contact for the patient, or delete the contact entirely if it was added by mistake.

It is considered best practice to set a contact as Inactive instead of deleting it if the client was a valid contact in the past. This preserves the previous relationship if there are any questions or legal issues that arise in the future.

Patient Tags Panel

This panel displays a list of all the ID/Tags on record for the patient. It includes the type, the ID number, the issue date, and the expiration date. It will also display any comments about the ID/Tag that were entered or edited.

ID/Tags can also be entered automatically via a Document Element, or via the Vaccine Certificate creation process for ID/Tags that are linked to a specific vaccine under Product Setup.

Add New ID/Tag

To manually add a new ID/Tag, click on the Add New ID/Tag button.

A small window will open for you to enter in the details of the tag.

Edit Existing ID/Tag

If you need to change information about a tag - for example, extending the expiration date on a permanent microchip past 10 years or adding a comment to a rabies tag with state required information beyond the tag number, click on the Edit button.

The window will open and allow you to make the necessary changes.
