Patient Medication Setup Tab

Patient Medication Setup Tab
The Patient Medication Setup tab is how you control the way certain medications appear on the medical record.
This tab controls how episode treatment antiparasitics and Client Reported antiparasitics appear. However, this tab only controls the client reported vaccines, based on information gathered from the owner during the patient history discussions.
Medications and vaccines that are given to the patient during the course of an episode are also displayed on the Medical Record by means of adding the product to the patient's bill, or by adding a prescription for a product that is marked as a vaccine on Product Setup.
VetView allows for the setup of two types of client reported medications to be customized: Parasites (antithelmintics / antiparasitics ) and Vaccines.
Parasite Setup Tab
A list of previously entered parasites will appear on this page.
Add a new Parasite
To add a new parasite and medication to treat it, click on the Add button. A small window will open to add the name of the Parasite.
Add Parasite Treatments, Species, and Synonyms
Once you have your parasites entered, select the name of the parasite to open a series of panels at the bottom of the page.
Here, you can add in recommended products to treat it, as well as a species filter (to prevent this parasite from being an option on patients where it does not apply.) If no species is entered, the parasite and treatments will be available to all patients.
Note that the only products available in the Products/Treatments section are products you have set up as antiparasitics on the Product Setup page. (See the Medical Record Options under Product Setup for more information.)
Multiple species and treatments can be added.
The Synonym allows you to add any common names for the parasite, e.g. "mange" for Demodex canis.
Parasites and Treatments on the Medical Record
Products that have been set up in this manner will appear under the Medication group on the patient record.
Click on Add Medication, and choose Antiparasitic from the list of Types.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Type | A list of all the different types of Medication available. This includes the anti-parasitics that were set up under the Parasite Subtab. |
Client Reported | Indicates that this medication was reported as something previously given to the patient, rather than a current active treatment. Eliminates unnecessary fields, such as the product and label. |
Parasite | Once Antiparasitic is select, this value list displays all the parasites entered on the Parasite Subtabt. |
Product | A list of all the products that were entered as being available to treat this parasite. |
Inventory | The inventory information for the product selected, including the information needed to print a label. |
Non Inventory / Not Billed | If this medication is given as part of another treatment package that will pull from inventory, you can add this flag to prevent it from being billed or pulled from the inventory when added to the patient record. |
Date Given | The date this treatment was given to the patient. If this is a client reported medication and they are not sure, you can click on the Approximate flag. |
Client Label | The information that will appear on the medication's go home label. Add any specific instructions to the owner. |
Comments | Any additional comments can be added here. |
Click on the Save button to add the medication to the patient record. It will appear in the Antiparasitic section in the Medication record group.
Click on the Printer icon to print the go-home medication label.
Vaccines Setup Tab
The Vaccine Setup tab is similar to the parasites tab. A list of any previously entered vaccines appears on the page.
Note that this panel only controls the Client Reported medications. Vaccines that are given to the patient during the course of an episode are displayed on the Medical Record by means of adding the product to the patient's bill, or by adding a prescription for a product that is marked as a vaccine on Product Setup.
Add a New Vaccine
To add a new vaccine to the list, click on Add and enter in the details of the vaccine.
Select the Vaccine from the list to open a panel below and filter by species.
Add a new Species
Click on the Add button to add a new species to the list. A new row will appear below any existing species.
Multiple species can be added to a list.
Click on the Save button to apply any changes.
Vaccines on the Patient Record
Only Vaccines that are set up in this tab are available under the Medication group.
This section is otherwise identical to the Antiparasitic group.
Click on Add Medication and select Vaccine from the Type.
