Value List Setup
The Value List Setup tab is where you can define the value lists that are used in the Value List digital document element. These value lists become drop down menus for the user to select an answer from a pre-defined list of options, as opposed to free text.
Once added, Value Lists become available to the Digital Document Elements tab and other parts of the system
Search Value Lists
The top section allows you to search for existing value lists based on the name. As there may be hundreds of value lists in your system, this will narrow the results down greatly.
Value List Names
The name of the value is is what will appear in the drop down menus on Digital Document Elements. These should be clear and concise. You can consider having the actual values of the drop down menu included in the name for short lists. For longer lists, the name of the list should be descriptive of the group instead, e.g. "Type of vaccines" or "Body site location."
To edit an existing value list, click on the List Name. The Edit Value list window will open. Value lists cannot be deleted, but they can be set to inactive if they are no longer going to be used.
Add New Value List
Click on the New Value List button to create a new list. Give this list a name, and click on the Save button.
Value List Items
The Items on the value list are the actual list that will appear in the menu.
Add New Value List Item
Click on the New List Item button to add new item to the list. Enter the item exactly as you want it to appear from the drop down menus.
Sort Value List items
For longer lists, you can choose to have the most common options at the top of the list. Select the item you want to add, and click on the Up and Down arrows to sort the list. You can also click on the Sort List button to arrange them alphabetically.
Value List Modifiers
Modifiers are used in conjunction with Text Element Value Lists and allow you to multi-select and append or replace the value list on the Patient Record or Request screen. This feature is also available in VetView Labs.
In the example below, Left and Right have been added as modifiers to Unilateral.
To use Value Lists with Modifiers, you must use the Digital Document Element of Text and choose List of Values, instead of the element type List of Values. This allows the modifiers to append or replace the text in the box. You can have a Text Box Size of Short, Long, or Multiline, depending on the length of the total expected values.
On the patient record, when this value list is added to a text element on a document, a special window will appear to allow the user to click to add the items under Result Sets.
On a document or request containing this value list, the Result Set window will appear like this:
Add New Modifier
Click on the New Modifier button to add a new value to the list.
Sort Modifiers
Use the Up and Down arrows to sort modifiers. Click on the Sort List button to arrange them alphabetically.
