Fill Outside Rx

The Fill Outside Rx is a screen for retail pharmacies that have a license to sell prescription drugs based on a prescription approved from a DVM outside of the hospital.  Any client in the system who is a DVM with a valid state license in VetView can be used as DVM for these prescriptions.

This workflow is separate and distinct from External Prescriptions, which are prescriptions approved by DVMs internal to the hospital that are intended to be filled at a human pharmacy.

Patient, Owner, RDVM

This screen loads blank until a patient has been looked up from the existing patient list, or a new one added.  The minimum information needed to add a new patient to the system is Name and Species, so if that is all that you have of the patient, you can still create and fill the prescription for them on this screen.

Search for Patient

Start by checking to see if the patient exists in the system (if they client says they have been at your hospital before.)  We recommend searching by patient name, species, and client last name.  If there is no match or too many matches, consider looking it up using the client phone number instead.  Potential matches appear on the right side, with matching information highlighted in red.

Double click the patient to select it.  

If there are no matches, click on the Save button to create the patient.  Note that a patient must have a case number in order to issue a prescription, so assign one manually if that is your hospital's workflow.

Add or Search for Owner

If you identified the patient successfully, the owner information should fill in automatically.

If there is no owner information or this is a new patient, manually add the owner information and then click on the Save button.  Make sure to include the billing information for new clients.

Add or Search for RDVM

If the RDVM for the patient did not appear automatically, you can add or search for them.  This is also how to ensure that the RDVM is entered as a potential approving DVM, if they are the person who wrote the prescription.

RDVMs already associated with your client will appear in a list on the left.  Select one if it is a match. 

Entering Prescription Information

Fill in the prescription information based on the outside prescription.

This is the same as the standard VetView prescription form found throughout the rest of the system, with one exception:  Prescribing DVM is changed to Outside Prescribing DVM, and will automatically fill in with the RDVM selected in the patient's demographic fields.

A user with the rights to approve the prescription must still enter in their name and password to send this to the pharmacy.

Outside Fill can be created as a custom patient status under Pharmacy Setup, but Outpatient can be used as well if that suits your pharmacy's workflows better.

Approve Scripts

Once the information has been fully entered, click on Approve Scripts to send it to the pharmacy queue like any other prescription.
