Shortcuts and Menu Options
Menu Item | Explanation |
---|---|
Collapse Episode | Shrinks the contents of the episode to where only the header bar is visible. This will change to Expand Episode when the episode is already collapsed. |
Expand Episode | Opens the episode so that all medical record groups inside the episode become visible again. This will change to Collapse Episode when the episode is already expanded. |
Comm. Log | Opens or closes the Communication Log side panel. |
Filters | Opens or closes the Filters side panel. |
Go To Admission | Loads this episode on the Admission screen. Once an episode has been checked in, no changes can be made on the admission screen, but this is a helpful shortcut for PAs that have not yet been admitted, or to verify information on the admission screen itself. |
Add New Element | The main menu for adding new content to the episode. See the section below for an explanation of all the options. |
Create Alert | Allows you to add an alert either to the patient, or only for this particular episode. |
Add Reminder | Adds a Patient Reminder to the Visit Information tab. This section is always visible at the top of the record, as long as there are active reminders. |
Verify Items | For supervisors, this button opens the Verification window for a single all in one step. Any user can open this window, but a supervisor must have the privileges and rights to verify the contents of the episode within the window using the second sign-in option. |
Add ASAQ Eligibility | Marks the episode as qualifying for ASAQ. This option is only available in Montreal. |
Update Location | Changes the patient's location in the system. Use this for patient tracking. Locations can be independent of the episode unit. For example if the patient will be boarded overnight but is in the care of the internal medicine department, the location can be changed to an overnight unit temporarily. |
Transfer Episode | Changes the Episode Unit from one service area to another. If a patient was admitted to the emergency department, the unit can be changed to internal medicine if they will be taking over the care of the patient going forward. This button will start the Transfer Request, and the new unit must complete the request and change the attending clinician if necessary. |
Admit Patient | Changes the episode status from Open to Admit. This action can be used to change the Episode Type automatically. |
Discharge Patient | Indicates that the patient has completed their visit for this episode, and is being sent home with the client. Discharge statuses may also be linked to the patient being deceased automatically, such as the status of Euthanized or Necropsied. Discharge statuses are custom for each hospital. The Discharge window also includes the options to schedule a pickup time, to add the patient to the Needs Appointment list for follow up by the client coordinator team, and to Hold on the patient list if there is a specific reason to keep them there after the discharge (such as outstanding lab work.) |
View Order | Goes to the Order Management Screen for the open order of the episode. If there are multiple open orders, it will go to the most recent related order added. |
Schedule Appointment | Loads the Schedule Screen and adds the patient's information to an appointment object on the left hand panel, where it can be added to the appropriate schedule directly. |
Hold on Patient List | Adds the Hold on Patient List option, so that if the patient is discharged later on, it will still remain in the Hold section of the patient list. Changes to Remove Hold on Patient List once this hold has been set. |
Admin Features | Allows an administrator with the appropriate privileges to Delete the Episode if it was added by mistake, Merge the episode if a second episode was added accidentally, and Edit the Episode Header to change information that was created on the pre-admission screen, such as episode type or the date of admission. If the owner, patient, and episode are all duplicated, they must be merged in that order: Merge Client first, then Merge Patient, then Merge Episode. |
Add New Element
Document elements are the content within an episode of VetView. Each of these options with either open a new medical record group, or a window to add in additional information.
Menu Item | Explanation |
---|---|
Add Document | Opens up the Add Document window. Documents are intended to be added by the episode unit, and filled out by the user who added it. Some documents can be set up to add to an episode automatically. |
Add Request | Opens up the Add Request window. Requests are intended to be filled out by the user, then approved by a supervisor, but ultimately performed by a different service area than the episode unit. For example, a surgery episode may put out a request to anesthesiology. Or an emergency unit may put out a request to radiology for images. |
Add Prescription | Opens up the Add Prescription window. Prescriptions are filled out by the user, then approved by the Requesting DVM, after which the Pharmacy department can process and fill the prescription for later pick up. Pharmacies that are listed as dispensaries can complete the process within the Add Prescription window, and print the forms out from the patient record. |
Add Medication | Adds a non prescription medication to the medical record. Use this for vaccines, anti-parasitics, shampoos, and other items that don't necessarily require a prescription at your hospital. |
Add Client Reported Medication | Use this option if the client informs you that the patient takes medication that was prescribed from an outside source. For example, if the patient has epilepsy and takes phenobarbital to control it, it can be added here. |
Add Personnel | Allows the user to add themselves or others to the episode. At a minimum, each episode must have an attending clinician. You can also indicate which students, techs, or other faculty and staff were part of this episode. |
Add Diagnosis | Opens up the Diagnosis section of the medical record. Allows the user to enter in SNOMED codes or search by key words. Possible diagnosis can be included as part of the differential process, and the final diagnosis can be marked as Definitive. |
Add Problem | Adds an Episode Problem. Also allows the user to start SOAPing the record. |
Add TPR | Adds a TPR section to the patient record. Multiple TPRs can be added over the course of a visit. TPRs can also be added via a document element within digital documents, and will automatically update to this section of the patient record. |
Create Alert
Create Alert allows you to add an alert to the patient or to the episode itself. Patient Alerts will appear at the top of the patient record. Episode alerts appear in line as part of the header. Patient alerts will also remain visible when the patient returns for a future visit.
Admin Options
Users with the administrator privileges on a patient record can Delete or Merge an episode if it was added by mistake.
Edit Episode Header opens a window to allow the administrator to make changes to the underlying data for the episode, such as the episode type or the unit, if a mistake was made during the admission process. These functions can be used as an alternative to deleting and creating a new episode with the correct information.
