Episode Filters Panel
- Cathy Allison
Episode Filters Panel
On the left side of the Visit Information tab is the Filters panel. This panel, like the Communication Log, is collapsible and can be hidden if it is not needed. It will load in an open state by default when the Patient Record is first opened.
The filters are divided into three major sections: Episode Unit, Episode Status, and Record Group.
Episode Unit Filter
The topmost filter is the unit filter. This displays only episodes that were assigned to the selected unit. If you want to review all of a patient's previous visits to your Behavior department, for example, you can select these episodes and temporarily hide everything else.
Episode Status Filters
The episode status filters allow you to search by the status as well as the dates for specific episodes.
Status Filter Options
Option | Description |
---|---|
New | Episodes that have been created but which have not yet occurred. This includes PAs that have been scheduled. |
Open | Episodes that are in progress. The patient has been checked in. |
Closed | The count of episodes that have been completed. The patient has been discharged, bills paid, etc, and episode closed by Medical Records or Accounting. |
Last ( ) Closed | Filters closed episodes by an integer entered in the field. For example, you can review the last 3 closed episodes. |
Episode Date | Allows you to filter episodes within a date range. If you want to only see episodes in the last year, you can restrict the episodes to these dates. |
All Closed | Displays all closed episodes. If the Closed count is very high, this may take a long time to load. Episodes will load in a collapsed state to speed up the process. |
Cancelled / No Show | Displays all episodes that were cancelled, or ultimately marked as a no show by scheduling. |
Consult | If your hospital uses the consult workflow (separate episodes for phone calls to and from RDVMs) this will display any episodes for this special status. |
All Episodes | Displays all episodes, including New, Open, Closed, and Discharged. If the Closed count is very high, this may take a long time to load. |
All Discharged | Displays all episodes which have been Discharged, but not yet closed by Medical Records or Accounting. |
All Deficient Episodes | Displays all episodes which have a medical record group marked as Deficient. This filter can be useful if you have received a notice from Medical Records that episodes are missing documentation or need corrections or verification. |
Record Group Filters
These filters will load all episodes that contain these specific medical record groups. This can be useful if you want to see only episodes which had lab work, only surgeries, only scanned visit records, etc. All groups will display on the left hand Filters panel regardless of whether it exists in the episode, but if no episodes contain that category when it is clicked, then only the episode headers will load.
If the medical record group exists on an episode, then it will also load and be visible underneath the episode header.
Custom Medical Record Groups
Medical Record Groups can be customized in VetView. Not every Medical Record Group in these screenshots will be available in your hospital, and there will be some that are visible in your Filters list that are not in these screenshots. Contact your supervisor if you have questions about the medical record groups available in your hospital.

Below are the Medical Record Groups that are loaded into VetView by default.

Imaging | Displays any Requests that were designated as Imaging. Imports the images from external systems when this has been set up in VetView. |
Requests | Displays any other documents that are classified as Requests in the system that were not also Labs or Imaging. Requests can also be sorted into their own custom medical record groups. |

Custom Groups | Any custom medical record group that was set up by your hospital. May contain Documents or Requests. Most common custom groups include Histories, Physicals, Surgeries, Referrals, scanned records, and Discharge instructions. These custom groups are used by the hospital to define the structure and requirements expected for each type of episode. |
